LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- On Saturday, July 28th, at 10:30 a.m., Dee Dee Phelps, author of "Vinyl Highway" (ISBN: 978-1934321751), singing as Dick and Dee Dee (www.dickanddeedee.com) will read on stage at the 2007 Hollywood Book Festival. The annual program celebrates books that deserve recognition from the film, television and multimedia communities.
In Vinyl Highway, a coming of age memoir, Dee Dee uses great stories, interesting detail, poignant moments and hilarious scenes from beginning to end to create page turning moments. Working with upcoming teenage bands, like the Beach Boys and Rolling Stones, the duo Dick and Dee Dee rises from naive college students to a polished recording act. But with success comes increasingly rigorous touring, pressure to adapt to the changing music scene....and growing tensions between the duo. Vinyl Highway illuminates the dark side of fame and offers hope and light for the future.
Like Dreamgirls, Jersey Boys and Hair Spray, Dee Dee hopes Vinyl Highway will continue in the book to stage tradition.
Vinyl Highway (ISBN-13: 978-1934321751), published by Altergate Publishing, is distributed nationally by IPG and will be available in bookstores by September, 2007.
In the afternoon, three hour long panel discussions will be held on the following topics:
** From Concept to Creation-Turning Ideas Into Books
** From Book To TV/Film - The Transformation of Print
** How Stories Get to Hollywood
At 4 p.m. in the Gallery Theatre at the park, the 2007 Hollywood Book Festival Annual Awards will be presented. The Emcee is actress Michele Dominguez ("L.A. Law" and "Six Feet Under").
The free event is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Barnsdall Art Park in Hollywood, 4800 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood, CA 90028. For more information, call the festival office at 323-665-8068.
