SILVER SPRING, MD -- More than 100,000 copies of a cool, new Christian teen girl magazine are being distributed for free across the United States. Realiteen (www.realiteenmagazine.com), published by a small group of entrepreneurial women in their twenties, is a lifestyle magazine covering the gamut of teen girls' interests from a Biblical perspective.
The 52-page premiere issue of Realiteen (pronounced ree-AL-ih-teen) includes sections on beauty, boys and relationships, entertainment, fashion, God, health and exercise, and faith-focused features. The 125,000 copies - distributed mostly through youth groups, conferences, and camps - are generating buzz and interest. Subscriptions will begin with a Back to School (August/September 2005) issue in late summer.
Subscriptions can be purchased through response cards in the premiere issue and through the magazine's companion Web site, www.realiteenmagazine.com.
Editor and President of the new venture, Christine Virgin, says it is the first magazine of its kind. "Today's teenage girls are savvier than ever, and they are craving a magazine that incorporates Christian faith into the culture in which they are inevitably immersed," she says. "Realiteen is filling a crater-sized void in the exploding Christian literature market."
Ms. Virgin and her business partner, Tricia Staible, created Realiteen Publications to launch the magazine. After sharing their passion with their church, the two came up with a core group of volunteers with similar goals. The company now has two other employees: Nicole Raithel, the fashion, beauty, accessories, and circulation director; and Melissa Dennis, entertainment director.
Lon Solomon, head pastor of McLean Bible Church in McLean, VA, says Realiteen is a breath of fresh air for Christian teen girls. "This magazine is designed to be 'real' enough that they don't write it off as cheesy or Bible-thumping, yet biblically sound enough to begin bringing a biblical worldview to these girls' lives - in everything from their sexual behavior to their personal esteem based in Christ."
Subscriptions cost $17.99 for one year (six issues). Single copies of the magazine will also be sold for $3.99 each on select Christian and mainstream newsstands beginning with the back-to-school issue. For a copy of the free premiere issue, please contact us.
