RALEIGH, N.C. -- Contributors to Lulu.com (www.lulu.com), a web site for writers and on-demand publishers, have responded to an invitation from Lulu to publish something romantic for Valentine's Day by deluging the site with tales of their greatest romantic disasters and Valentine's Day catastrophes.

Jeremiah Donaldson, a novelist, poet and musician, uses the site's forum to recount the time he exchanged come-hither glances with an attractive woman across a crowded bar (www.lulu.com/ephiroll). When he finally approached her, she turned to him to speak, only to launch a stream of vomit that just missed one of his shoulders. He categorizes the episode as the 'worst pickup line' he ever experienced.

Leah Riley, an artist and designer, meanwhile, describes her worst Valentine's Day ever in another post to the site's forum (www.lulu.com/lriley):

When I was in junior high I worked in the library. I had a boyfriend and he broke up with me one week before Valentine's Day. One of my jobs as librarian assistant was to help deliver the flowers that came into the school on Valentine's Day. So, not only did I get to deliver flowers to other happy girls, I had to deliver flowers from my recently broken-up ex-boyfriend to another girl. Seriously, not so fun.

Author Elizabeth Grzeszczyk (www.lulu.com/EGrzeszczyk) seized the occasion to announce the publication of her memoir, "I Fell In Love With a Con Man," a cautionary tale about an American woman who falls under the spell of a suave European scoundrel.
